COLOR THEORY: RAVISHING RED AND WHY IT CAPTURES OUR EYE

COLOR THEORY: RAVISHING RED AND WHY IT CAPTURES OUR EYE

Color Theory is a set of ideas that encapsulate how colors affect environments and our response to them. For example, placing two brightly saturated colors next to each other may create a disparate strain on the eyes, which can be mellowed by pairing colors that compliment or even each other out. In addition, we as humans have cultural and anthropological associations with colors, like purple being tied with royalty due to purple dye being the most expensive material in medieval times. Of course there are no strict rules, but an understanding of color theory can help anyone with assembling an outfit or even designing a space.

Red, being a primary color, is attention grabbing and distinct to our eye. It is one of the three purest hues available to the human eye, due to the fact that any sort of mixing to create secondary or tertiary colors slightly dulls their saturation. Cherry red in particular seems to be taking over fashion lately, I've noticed it, and so have customers walking into Cloak and Dagger. This saturated, energized red pairs well with black, navy, and white, while always popping. So what does cherry red convey to make us so attracted to it?

Red, as previously stated, is a primary color, but is also the warmest hue in the color wheel. Red is a particularly noticeable color even amongst primary colors due to our cultural connotations of the color. Red is associated with danger and violence, but also passion, energy, love, and power. Red is fire, the life bringer that has an element of destruction in its creative potential. What about wearing red though? While it certainly won't make you a terrifying destroyer, bright red says you are bold, willing to stand out, and have a slight edge even in cute looks. Coming back to the idea of passion and sensuality, red also conveys an element of attraction and maturity. I know I am not the only one as a kid who was told I couldn't wear red nail polish until I was older. Red is sexy, flirty, and has a kick! When you understand the power of red, it is yours to wield.

Lucky for you, Cloak & Dagger has plenty of red in stock to give you that needed pop in your wardrobe. The Les Filles and the L'Italie Bardot Mini dress feature bright red stripes. The Rouge Carel in Kina or Peche styles are standouts and will attract unlimited compliments. For larger red pieces we have the Maria Stanley Ronin Blazer, the Jem! Perfect Tee, and two beautiful Vintage in-store exclusive dresses. For more accessory fun we recommend the Crap Eyewear Sweet Leaf in Cherry, the Hansel from Basel Sheer Crew Sock in Red, and the Vintage Bakelite bangles we have in-store. We also have a new sneak-peek look at our larger Fall drop, the Brenton Sweater in cherry red and navy stripes. This sweater is made from a blend of baby alpaca wool, merino wool, and recycled fibers. It is available in-store now but will be online later this week. More exciting new Fall looks incoming!

Use the power of red and add a powerful, flirty, and primary flair to your look!
