REVOLT! The Best Non-Profits and What They Do

April 27 2017, 0 Comments
One of the most amazing aspects of being an American is our right to freedom and justice. We have the opportunity to say what we feel, dress how we choose, and go where we like, without any hesitation. At Cloak and Dagger, we support the freedom of choice; whether it's choosing which shoes to put on in the morning, or choosing who to vote for.
We want our fellow babes (and dudes) to be as equal as possible, which starts with educating yourself on which organizations also believe in bringing equality and freedom to all! Check out these wonderful non profit organizations that fight every day to do just that..

Planned Parenthood: https://www.plannedparenthood.org/

What They Do: Provide affordable healthcare for women of all ages, focus on preventative reproductive healthcare (birth control, STD and Cancer screenings), educating the community on sex-ed and advocating for women's healthcare rights.
Having been around for 100+ years, Planned Parenthood was founded based on the belief that women should have the information and affordable care they need to live their most bad-ass lives while still maintaining their health.
Services they offer: abortions, birth control, cancer screenings, pregnancy regulation, morning after pill, mens sexual health information, general health care, std treatment, sexual education- all for an affordable price (and sometimes free depending on the service).

Environmental Defense Fund: https://www.edf.org

"Our work protects nature and helps people thrive"- EDF

What They Do: EDF focuses on climate and energy change, while creating solutions that bring economic growth. They encourage cutting back on burning fossil fuels and fights against chopping down forests- which causes temperatures to rise worldwide, resulting in a string of negative effects on the global environment. By providing data that shows how much energy people are using in their day-to-day lives, EDF makes it easy for anyone to see where they can cut back on energy use.
Services They Offer and Advocate For: EDF works together in partnerships with  FedEx and Ocean Spray to maintain sustainable business practices, as well as mentoring companies such as Walmart, CVS, and Colgate on how to remove toxic chemicals from their products. They also work with congress to pass bills on climate change and energy sustainability, clean water and ecosystem maintenance, and fostering sustainable land use. So what are the results? A better climate and environment for all, babes!

NARAL Pro Choice America: https://www.prochoiceamerica.org/

What They Do: Focus on the belief that reproductive rights are human rights, and all human's should be treated equally. This means reproductive freedom and affordable access to reproductive healthcare, including birth control and abortion, as well as supporting families who choose to work while pregnant and fighting against pregnancy discrimination. NARAL believes and advocates that everyone should be able to choose if, when, how and with whom to start or grow a family.

Services they advocate for: abortion access, birth control, paid family leave, fighting pregnancy discrimination
"we fight to protect and expand these rights at every level of government—whether that means organizing our members to pressure lawmakers and corporations, working to elect pro-choice champions or changing the conversation ahead of monumental Supreme Court decisions."- NARAL Pro Choice America.

ACLU: https://www.aclu.org/

What They Do: The ACLU is nonprofit and nonpartisan, and they work in both the courts and communities to defend individual rights that have been guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States. They also hope to change the mindset of differing parties, as well.
Issues they cover: disability rights, freedom of speech, human rights, reproductive freedom, immigrant's rights, LGBT rights, racial justice, women's rights (just to name a few)
"Whether it’s achieving full equality for LGBT people, establishing new privacy protections for our digital age of widespread government surveillance, ending mass incarceration, or preserving the right to vote or the right to have an abortion, the ACLU takes up the toughest civil liberties cases and issues to defend all people from government abuse and overreach".- ACLU
What You Can Do:  Unfortunately, there are people out there who are fighting to defund Planned Parenthood, as well as fighting against many of the issues/services NARAL and the ACLU  stand for. To make sure this doesn't happen, you can make donations to these organizations, volunteer at your local healthcare centers, and march for your rights as a way to help support your fellow sisters and brothers of the world (because what's cooler than that)? Nothing, in our opinion!
